SONIC PRAYER XXXVII
Happy full moon, creative ones!
This month’s sonic prayer is a ritual for reconnecting with what is lost. A warning. A gathering. A building of energy. A remembering. A prayer for ceasefire.
I love writing as a process of sculpting the sounds available to me. It is often how I begin, looking for sounds that intrigue or excite me as a way in. When I find one, it almost always asks to be used in a specific way, revealing a drone, or riff, or progression, or melody, which becomes the anchor for the piece. This month’s prayer features the lowest B on my piano; it sounds almost prepared, the palpable presence of the hammer and resonance distinctly different from all its surrounding notes.
